Trite plot, but some interesting aircraft

The plot is a cliché, and the acting is barely B-movie serviceable, but the film is an interesting look at the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s. The film features a C-47 (DC-3) on skis, an Air Force glider (similar to those used at the Normandy landings in WWII), and the rarely seen F-82 Twin Mustang. Incidentally, the aircraft used in the film indicate that principal photography must have taken place well before the film's 1955 release; the Air Force retired its very last F-82 in June, 1953, and the piston-powered B-36 bombers featured in the melodramatic formation flight that closes the film were old news by the mid-1950's, by which time jet powered B-52 had begun to replace them.

A simple story told unusually with a amazing climax!

Simple Movie.. Great Direction BY Blesy! (his hat-trick HIT movie) Mammootty is simply perfect in this!

The story starts from a village.. (more specifically a hilly area) area where monichan and his family lives. For giving better education to his children monichan shifts to city and meets new friends and a entirely new life there. And he gets influenced by the wicked nature of Jagathy. The movies points out the wickedness of city life and gives a good message to all parents! And a climax which was totally unexpected!

Highly Recommending everyone to watch this one!

The performacne of all stars are excellent! Mammooty once again proved he is simply the best actor! The actress playing his wife has done a good job. The little ones playing monichans kids were also superb! Might get award for best child actress.

My rating:9/10

Care was not taken with making this movie!

This so-called horror movie is one of the worst slashers I have ever seen in my life. It goes wrong in every way you can think of. For starters, the entire enterprise is appallingly cheap. Shot almost entirely at night, the lighting is almost non-existent, and it's often hard to make out the surroundings or what it going on. Also, with little in the way of props, it's as if the filmmakers decided to write something with the little they had, instead of writing the story first and worrying about bringing things in later. But wait - things get even worse! We have teen protagonists who are annoying and so poorly developed I don't think we even learn the names of some of them. It should be a pleasure seeing them chopped up, but the slaughter doesn't really get going until more than an hour of the running time has passed, with most of the time devoted to seeing the teens wandering around and around endlessly. Once it does get going, the slaughter is not very graphic at all. The "surprise twist" at the end isn't the least bit surprising. And Judd Nelson is totally wasted, having almost no screen time. Do you need any more convincing about "The Caretaker" being a complete waste of time?

Boojh Mera Kya Naam Re - Tribute to Shamshad Begum

Shamshaad Begum passed away on 23.04.2013 leaving a golden chapter of the book of Bollywood music to glitter forever in her mesmerizing voice and unique style of singing.

As my tribute to Shamshaad Begum, I am presenting the review of an old movie - C.I.D. (1956) which was made by Guru Dutt and directed by Raj Khosla, starring Guru Dutt and Shakila in lead roles. The highlight of this movie is the immortal music composed by O.P. Nayyar containing certain classic songs in the voice of Shamshaad Begum which we, the music lovers, are fond of listening to again and again and again.

C.I.D. (the acronym for the crime investigating department) starts with the killing of a newspaper editor who was on the trail of a rich businessman - Dharamdaas (Bir Sakhuja) who was supposed to be having underworld links. The case is assigned to C.I.D. inspector Shekhar (Dev Anand) who alongwith his love life with Rekha (Shakila), moves forward in the direction of unravelling the mystery of the editor's murder and reaching the real culprit. However the real culprit is smarter than him and he weaves a web of lies, deceit and conspiracy around him and traps himself only in the murder of the murderer (Mehmood). How he proves his own innocence and catches the guilty is the remaining part of the story in which the characters of Kaamini (Waheeda Rehman) and Master (Johnny Walker) also play significant roles.

This is the debut movie of its director - Raj Khosla who is credited to bring about neo-noir style in the Indian cinema. C.I.D. was one of the pioneer movies in the tradition of Hollywood style crime-thrillers in India. Raj Khosla had learnt directorial skills by assisting the producer of this movie - Guru Dutt, the legend of the Indian cinema but he did not copy his guru and instead, developed his own style of narration. This debut movie of himself is a showcase of his abundant talent which despite some plot holes, keeps the viewer hooked for two and a half hours. He has not allowed the narrative to go lax (despite melodious songs and the romance of the lead pair intervening) and presented a taut thriller. He has focused on thrill and not on mystery, else, given the script, he could have easily made a whodunit also.

The young director has been able to draw praiseworthy performances from the actors. Dev Anand was fast evolving himself into the Indian Gregory Pack and in C.I.D. also, he is able to fling lightning on the hearts of the young females with his handsome personality and enchanting mannerisms. Shakila was very beautiful and her pair with Dev Anand appears quite charming. This is the debut movie of one of the greatest actresses of the Indian screen - Waheeda Rehman who was barely 18-19 years old then. Guru Dutt gave her the break in Bollywood through a negative role in this movie and lo ! The actress playing a vamp in her debut movie went on to register her name in one of the most happening and the most popular Bollywood heroines during the sixties. Both these ladies have done well. The complete supporting cast has also done justice to the assigned roles.

Guru Dutt's movies are incomplete without Johnny Walker. The immensely popular song - Aye Dil Hai Mushkil Jeena Yahaan, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan has been picturized on him only and none can forget his performance on this song. This legendary comedian has provided sufficient no. of relief moments in this movie belong to the genre of noir cinema. Just like Guru Dutt and Johnny Walker, Dev Anand and Johnny Walker also made a great male pair of the Indian screen, complimenting each other very well and entertaining the audience in huge quantum.

As asserted earlier, the biggest plus point of this movie is the immortal music composed by O.P. Nayyar. Most of the lyrics have been written by Majrooh Sultaanpuri. Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein Ishaara Ho Gaya has been penned by the great Shaayar - Janaab Jaanisaar Akhtar (the father of Jaaved Akhtar) and Jaane Tamanna Kya Kar Daala has been penned by S.H. Bihari. Geeta Dutt has sung Aaye Dil Hai Mushkil Jeena Yahaan and Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein Ishaara Ho Gaya with Mohammed Rafi whereas Jaata Kahaan Hai Diwane is her solo. Jaane Tamanna Kya Kar Daala is the duet sung by Asha Bhosle and Mahendra Kapoor.

And Shamshaad Begum has given her voice to the great songs like Kahin Pe Nigaahen Kahin Pe Nishaana (picturized on Waheeda Rehman) and the immensely popular - Leke Pehla Pehla Pyar (picturized on Sheela Waaz and Shyam Kapoor) in the company of Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi. My favourite song of Shamshaad Begum from this album in particular as well as in general is - Boojh Mera Kya Naam Re, Nadi Kinare Gaaon Re which has been picturized on Meenu Mumtaaz. The low profile actresses like Sheela Waaz and Meenu Mumtaaz also got their share of popularity by performing on Shamshaad's enchanting voice in these songs. The lyricists have dropped gems in the form of words for the lyrics of these songs.

With my tribute to the great female singer whose voice was not fine like Lata's and somewhat hoarse, nevertheless enchanting for the music lovers; I unconditionally recommend this interesting crime-thriller from the black and white era to the movie buffs. The evergreen songs render immense repeat value to this classic black and white movie.

Never give a sucker an even break

This was a nice film with drama, music, romance and a message made by and starring Raj Kapoor at his peak. He again demonstrated his love of the visual Charlie Chaplin, along with facial similarities his politics were probably not too far removed either.

Jaunty orphan Ranbir Raj makes his way to Bombay to make his fortune, after encountering much human trickery ends up poor in money but rich in love. Reflecting the ups and downs are many good Jaikishan songs, especially Mera Joota Hai Japani and the relentless bouncy Ichak Dana Bichak Dana both sung by Mukesh. Nargis seldom looked lovelier, either when singing in the rain, or in the key emotional scene watching her ghostly version singing her true feelings to Raj. He took to a tuxedo much better than Chaplin did too! The sets were all (RK) studio bound, but were atmospherically displayed in the gleaming black and white.

Overall nothing too heavy but not totally inconsequential either, a perfect example of early Bollywood.

Genuinely funny, feel-good film

If you watch the trailer to Sisterhood, you could be forgiven for thinking it's going to be just another chick flick. Fortunately, you'd be wrong. Very wrong indeed. Sisterhood is almost indecently funny.

I don't like chick flicks. There's usually a mildly amusing premise to the film and a predictably sentimental ending with a few smiles raised in between - if you're lucky. Plenty of them fall into car crash entertainment and have me cringing. Sisterhood beats all of this because, in essence, it isn't a chick flick. It's a well-produced, beautifully directed comedy. Sure, it has a sentimental side to it, but sentimentality is more likely to take a pie - or a cowpat - in the face in this film, meaning that it keeps its edge and leaves audiences of both sexes entertained.

There are moments of sheer, comic laugh-out-loud genius in this film. Do go into the film with your silly side firmly plugged in. This is not a film for polite titters, it's for people who genuinely enjoy laughing and still hope that, in a cinema somewhere, there is a film that seeks only to entertain, without getting bogged down in making its stars unattainably perfect, or trying too hard to be the next big thing.

This is a great British comedy, with a nice Kiwi twist that keeps it from falling into the saccharine traps of Richard Curtis' latter outings. And when you consider it was made for just £75,000, you can't help but wonder what they could do with a larger budget.

Can't recommend the film highly enough: go and see it!
